GREYHOUNDZ: In For The Kill with New Studio Album Recording

At Love One Another Studios (a very aptly named recording space for such a tight-knit band) Greyhoundz has been and is continually writing, recording and producing new material. On a supposedly uneventful Wedensday night, a handful of us had dinner with the band composed of Reg Rubio, Nino Avenido, TJ Brillantes and Audie Avenido, and their crew.

We were invited by their manager and fifth man, Bubi Sanchez, to drop in on their songwriting session as a preview to what will be one of the biggest independent movements of 2012.

I’ve personally met the band members separately and casually at bars, rooftops and music camps. I’ve seen them perform live several times – even getting them once for our own gig at Mary Moon Productions. But I’ve never seen them interact in a studio where their songwriting personas and muscianship meet, stripped of the pressure of stage performance. And despite thoroughly enjoying themselves, they take their music more seriously than most people take their nine-to-fives.

For their upcoming songs, the band is playing it by ear. Well-trained ears, that is. Not having a peg for what they want to sound like is giving them the liberty to expand on their musicality. Take that, plus their plan of taking their time releasing singles and you can just imagine how their album is going to sound like.

Without the rush of finishing an entire album in one sitting, they are finally in control of their time to make their tracks good, then amazing, then brutally kick-ass. As narrated to me, Audie usually begins their process with his constant experimentation while keeping the rhythm section in mind. As evident to dedicated fans and new listeners, it’s their distinct groove that gets people hooked. As several of us witnessed that night, they’ve got it going from how they write to the way they talk like brothers.

For their new material, Greyhoundz will be stepping back and joining independent bands in the DIY campaign. (A great challenge for most but will hopefully force young bands to step up as well) If anyone can take control of their stuff, it’s definitely this band. They’re gonna do it themselves and they’re gonna do it right: their music, their business, their rules.

Starting very soon, the band will be releasing one new single on the internet every month! Who knows, maybe we’ll also be seeing a number of music videos from various directors. A possibility of a compilation of all these tracks is also looming, so to all the fans of the band: make sure you continually show your support by (legally) downloading their tracks, attending their gigs and simply getting yourselves heard. They’re listening to you just as much as you’re listening to them.

Another thing to look forward to is the merchandise. Coming soon will be Greyhoundz apparel and items. Knowing the band, they’re gonna come up with designs even non-fans (if any) will want to buy. Stay tuned and constantly visit their Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/greyhoundzgang

A band that fearlessly moves, whose every decision has to be unanimous and without hesitation; their identity will be sure to push through any medium – whether through online releases or merchandise, music videos or live concerts. Execution style was their first self-produced album. But with no label and a manager they’ve come to know as family, most of what the world will witness from the band has been brainstormed, produced and delivered by the band members themselves. Brace yourselves.
