The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Coming (Very) Soon: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart Live in Manila!
by Jeanilyn Kwan

When the 2012 line-up of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival came out in October last year, a herd of local indie pop lovers started skipping meals to save up for a memorable trip to Singapore. But, while piggy banks were being broken, Joff Cruz of Kindassault started cooking up a plan to bring in some of the Laneway fever back to Manila for those who couldn’t afford the expense of traveling abroad.

After a successful Toro Y Moi concert last February 15, Kindassault in corporation with Raven 7 and No Seat Affair, are now promising another epic and intimate night with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Scheduled to perform on Wednesday, February 29 at the Hard Rock Café in Glorietta 3, TPOBPAH are four New Yorkers who have perfected the art of playing sweet pop rhythms and sublime nu gaze melodies. If you like the idea of a harmonious ménage à trois of music from the Smashing Pumpkins, Ride and Jesus and Mary Chain, you’ll certainly fall in love with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. As part of Pitchfork’s and NME’s roster of favorites, they are certainly one band for the books.

For those who were quite disappointed with the technical problems that almost killed their set at Laneway, TPOBPAH’s Hard Rock gig next week is definitely a must-watch. I can assure that it’ll beat trying to keep your balance on an inclined hill for hours surrounded by a horde of sweaty fans.

That’s a crappy photo I took from afar during TPOBPAH’s Laneway performance. Next week, my shots are going to be more up close and personal (by hook or by crook!).

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are:

Peggy Wang - keyboard + vocals
Alex Naidus - bass
Kurt Feldman - drums
Kip Berman - guitar + vocals

OH, AND BY THE WAY…!!!

Two awesome local bands, The Camerawalls and Beeyes, will be opening for TPOBPAH!
Connor Hanwick, drummer of The Drums (pun not intended), will be performing with TPOBPAH!
If you watched the Toro Y Moi concert, you’re eligible to get a TPOBPAH ticket at a discounted price!

Kip, Peggy (and the rest TPOBPAH) want YOU to be there!!! Here’s proof:

Now, hurry on over to www.kindassault.com for tickets and concert details!

DON’T STOP INDIE POP!!!
